The birch tree bark extract betulin, betulinic acid and lupeol are used as an ingredient in cosmetology for skin and hair care. It is known as a natural antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, improves atopic dermatitis/eczema conditions of the skin, eliminates symptom of severe itching, stimulates collagen and elastin in the skin (lifting effect, anti-wrinkle effect).

 

In 2013 Europe completely banned testing of cosmetics and their ingredients on animals and the sale of cosmetics that have been tested in this way. After the entry into force of a total ban on the use of ingredients tested on animals in cosmetics, the marking 'not tested on animals' (or ' cruelty-free') is considered to be misleading. Currently, no cosmetics or its ingredients are tested on animals to assess the safety of the cosmetic. 

European Union Law imposes strict requirements on the safety of cosmetics. It creates a list of ingredients prohibited in the cosmetics. EU completely bans animal testing. EU specifies safety requirements, label markings, steps before placing cosmetics on the market - attestations, CPNP list registry. Each State's proper authorities monitor and enforce the law. Producers need to label cosmetics properly and give the required information to consumers.

The main difference between natural and conventional cosmetics is what they are made of. Natural skincare is made with high-quality pure ingredients taken from nature, organic plant's extracts, waxes, and oils. Conventional cosmetics have toxic substances in them, harmful to humans and causing cancer, genetic mutations, and birth defects. They include byproducts of petroleum oil, paraffin, paraffin wax, synthetic dyes and fragrances, toxic preservatives like paraben and formaldehyde.
